THE CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF TRADE IN PAKISTAN AND THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN ENCOURAGING PAKISTANI EXPORTERS

This corporate dialogue examined Pakistan’s export performance in detail in the light of emerging global challenges and classified key operational and policy issues that hinder the growth of Pakistan's exports & exporters. The honourable guests from TDAP, The Bestway Cement, and leading exporters in Pakistan argued with logical reasoning on the challenges and prospects of trade in Pakistan and the role of government in encouraging Pakistani exporters in details. The main points discussed in the dialogue were concerned around lack of modern technology, shortage of required labour and exporting skills, bilateral agreements with other countries, lack of quality certifications in maintaining international standards, language barriers, poor physical infrastructure and lack of foreign direct investments. The leading exporters of Pakistan (panel members) criticized the role of Government in encouraging Pakistani exporters and to provide solutions to their problems while doing export business, especially minimum and non-cooperative attitude of the concerned government department. The TDAP official ensured that various steps & initiatives have been taken by Pakistan Chamber of Commerce to boost up exports and the government doors are always open for the Pakistani exporters. The panel members encouraged the university students to pursue export business and become successful & professional exporters to play their role to lead Pakistan in Export Business. The students and management of City University highly appreciated the whole corporate dialogue and considered it very useful & fruitful towards export business in Pakistan.
